THE BRIDE AND HER FATHER -- AUGUST 29, 2009

Remember last year when Hallie called to say she had received an engagement ring for her birthday. We took a nostalgic view at the day she appeared on our scene. And now we have added to our memories her wedding day and the receptions and the story goes on.

Hallie sent the above photo to Mike for his birthday. The moment was right, the smiles are right, and it's a great black and white photo taken by Toni, the groom's mother. KW

What a beautiful photo! And happy birthday to Hallie!! What a wonderful gift you were and are to your parents. Hope you're having a special day. :-)

Hallie called last night. We seldom think to call her. She has a cell phone -- we have a land line. So, spontaneous calls originate with her.

Anyway, she told us about her birthday at work. Apparently realizing that Hallie prefers low-key celebrations, her co-workers decided to comply with her wishes. One arrived earlier than the rest to decorate her work area with streamers and left a primrose on her desk. Another brought cookies, another arrived late with doughnuts. And each one gave her a card. So, with each one doing some simple thing, the low-key celebration was memorable.

Thanks, all! It was a very nice day. Well, MOST of the day was very nice. A spider perched on my shoulder while I was watching TV before bed so there was a bit of drama. Luckily, after screaming and launching the spider into the unknown, Nick and I eventually located him and put him to eternal rest so that I could rest temporarily. :)

Oh Hallie, you failed to mention the spider. I can just see the both of you! I'm glad you like the photo, Kathy - it turned out really well.

Yes, the picture did turn out well. There's something to be said for black and white and the way it handles sunlight and shadow. The copy now posted is actually the third one. The first picked up a smudge from the glass on my copier/scanner, which hopefully no one saw. Hallie complained about some distortion in the second, so I cleaned the glass with a soft cloth and tried again. Our scanner isn't the best, but at least I got the lint off of Mike's tux.
