IS IT TIME YET?

The dogs know the signs of a hunting day -- Mike's garb and the equipment at the ready. Little Bess (37 1/2 pounds as of last week) vocally expressed her impatience with the wait. Finally, she dejectedly climbed onto the sofa to cuddle with Mike. KW

  1. Sounds like she's a true hunting dog! Did she have to wait much longer?

  2. She is a true hunting dog, much to Mike's relief. Sometimes they aren't, even with excellent breeding. She still has lessons to learn, but she's exuberant and loves to go. She had to wait the better part of an hour. They didn't go until 10:00, but it was a hard day of hunting and they didn't see many birds. It was the hunter who was dejected when they returned.

  3. Let me tell you a story about my dad and dogs. When I was a wee thing, dogs were not allowed inside. They were outdoor beasts only. I had to go out to the yard and stick my little hand through the chain link fence of the kennel to pet the dog. Then, when I was in junior high, the dog could come in and lay on a pillow for a few hours before bed each night but she could NOT get on furniture. When Nellie came along, I circumvented the no furniture rule by letting her lay on ME and not the couch. Now look at this Bess dog sitting directly on the couch!

  4. I guess we learned that the socialized dog is the better pet. Dogs are people, too, you know. And perhaps we're more realistic about life than we used to be. After all, we don't see many people at our house, and our day definitely revolves around the dogs.
