REGAINING MOMENTUM

Once in a blue moon – very rarely – my sewing room needs to become a guest room. With the gathering of family for B-I-L Bill’s funeral, the services of the little room were rather suddenly required as guest accommodations. Brother Chuck and Joanne arrived Thursday (Feb. 12) and stayed until Wednesday morning (Feb. 18). And I’m going to be right upfront here and say that it took me all of three days just to stash my sewing stuff and coax the room to look cozy for guests.

But – the sewing room was due for a massive reorganization, and I was happy to do it for my family. Still, I cleaned with trepidation because it doesn’t take much to make me forget just where I am in the scheme of things with my projects, some of which exist only in my mind. I pinned notes to some fabric – “overalls for bear,” “pants for bear,” etc. And something will go missing, no matter how hard I try. This time it's those vintage magazines with Cabbage Patch patterns in which I found the perfect t-shirt for "Build-a-Bears." Now, where did I put those?

The little room became a sewing room again once the guests left the driveway, but not so quickly did I regain my sewing momentum. For one thing, I appreciate that the room will be nice and neat as long as I don't sew. And for another – well, it’s just hard to take the plunge, I guess. Maybe today – if I can find that t-shirt pattern. . .

My play partner, Emmy, vacationed in Cancun this past week. I missed her, but truly it doesn’t much matter where she is because I’m a thousand miles from her anyway. But – it’s time to refocus on “Rosabell the Build-a-Bear.” At least, it is for me. You never quite know with a child. Perhaps she’s already outgrown Rosabell. Did Rosabell go to Cancun? I don’t know. 1. It is amazing how we can lose momentum when our workplaces are disturbed. I have had the same problem with my scrapbooking (fortunately my sewing room is only used for a bedroom once every ten years and the last time it was D in a port-a-crib). At least it's all tidy and ready for some action!

  2. I hope we didn't pose too much of an inconvenience. We appreciated your hospitality and the fun things we did together. By the way, I ordered the weather station, but I got only the single display for $119.

  3. Hi Chuck! Inconvenience? No! Family unity was important as we celebrated Bill's life. It was wonderful that you could come. The house is small and I'm well aware that we have our idiosyncrasies. It might have been more comfortable for all if Bill had passed in one of the warmer months, but none of knows when we'll receive that call. And -- you just don't know -- that room really had to be reorganized and now it's done. Fortunately I had a few days so that I could put things where they belonged and not just stash them.

I found the t-shirt pattern and I'm back in business.

I hope you like your new weather station. Let us know . . .

  4. The weather station came today. It is set up, and I am trying to figure out how and where to mount the outdoor sensor. It is raining and cold, now, so I will wait till it warms up a bit.

  5. Rosabell did make the trip to Cancun! We had two horrific plane experience that caused 3.5 hr trips to turn into 8 on the way there and 10 on the way back. Rosabell sat buckled in with Emmy by the window and kept Emmy busy along the way. We did spare her from the sand on the beach though.

  6. I'm glad to hear Rosabell went to Cancun. It's lovely that this teddy bear is so meaningful to Emmy.
