This card is from "Vintage Valentines," a book of flocked valentines to punch out and assemble -- a reproduction published by Golden Books. These cards were my favorite when I was a child. For Valentine's Day, each student in the class would decorate a shoebox and bring a valentine for every other student in the class. There would be a party with cupcakes or heart-shaped cookies. Maybe a teacher will tell us what it like these days . . .
Hello from "a teacher." I buy white bakery bags from Rosaurs and the kids decorate them. They then tape the bags to the edge of their desks. Many other teachers also do this although a few still do the boxes.
Valentines these days usually come with candy attached. Today other items found in the bags included homemade play doh, plastic whiligigs (twirl between the hands and let fly), suckers, and pencils. For food we had everything from the usual heart shaped cookies to two 30" diameter pizzas!! Rest assured no one went home hungry.
We have noted that typos in comment boxes are not correctible. Just ignore them -- that's what I do. I'm glad I'm not under pressure to provide a gift with my valentine cards or worse -- with my child's valentines. I'm all for keeping it simple. The time & effort to select and send a card are significant. My valentine & I exchanged cards, & I made heart-shaped cupcakes for dessert.
