QUICK TRIP TO GILBERT

Fog and smoky haze in Little Canyon

Well, I tell ya – the temperature quickly dropped over the weekend, and the high on Sunday was somewhere in the mid-60s. I was sure fall was here for good – and indeed, the weather has changed. “It just looks like fall,” said Mike, as we drove down the Clearwater River yesterday (Tuesday, August 28).

A northwesterly view
In anticipation of opening bird-hunting season – coming right up – Mike and I had gone to the farm early yesterday morning so that he could get in some target shooting with his handy-dandy thrower. We drove along in fog from the time we crossed the Clearwater at Arrow until we reached the farm. We were there before 9:00, and Mike was shooting well, so we didn’t waste targets and ammunition on a lot of practice.

Yellow Crookneck Squash
Zucchini
The vegetation that was so stressed in the heat last week had revived with the recent rain and cooler temps. Everything was wet – no need to water. There was nothing to pick, but zucchini and yellow crookneck squash are developing. If temps are fairly warm through September, we may yet enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Sheetrock in place
The drywallers showed up. “Doesn’t it look like a house again,” asked the lead man, obviously proud of his work. They will begin mudding soon, and we discussed the technique. We were pleased to learn that they expect to hang the wallpaper for us. We thought we’d have to do it. That was the good news.

The bad news is that we discovered wet boards on the hall floor upstairs. The fear is that the roof is leaking, though that would be odd. The matter is being more fully investigated as I write.

As we were driving back to town in bright sunshine, the radio announcer said, “. . . today, August 28th . . .” “Today is the 28th!?” said Mike. “I thought tomorrow was the 28th.” (The 28th is my birthday.) So, we stopped by Papa Murphy’s and picked up a pizza for our supper, and after supper we went to see Crazy Rich Asians. I had never heard of it before yesterday – I just don’t even care about keeping up anymore – but we both enjoyed it. KW

Who is investigating the wet boards? Is it in the area of the bathroom being worked on? You have more things happening than they are being taken care of. I'm really interested in what you find out. We are also getting slightly cooler (if you can call 96 cooler). Fall must not be too far distant. Keep the words coming.

The contractor said he would go to the farmhouse today and check it out. He didn't call to report, so I have no new news. Yes, I will let you know.

We had another warm afternoon here, but the forecast is for in the 70s again tomorrow.

Turns out the water stained areas were from the original problem so that was a big relief although I couldn't see how the roof could be leaking without any sign on the ceiling whatsoever.
