Well, “they say” you don’t have to answer a Christmas
card until next Christmas. It is more in the nature of a gift, so to speak,
though I’ve always hated not to do so. My way is to get a supply of New Year
cards; then if I’m caught, a few lines on the card fixes it or the card alone,
see!

Hmmm,I'm not certain I've ever seen a New Year's card. Seems many cards these days include that in the message, but I usually pick just Christmas cards. I have a number of friends who don't mail their cards out until after Christmas, but they're still Christmas cards. Oh, and I do hasten to send a Christmas card to any who send me one and to whom I hadn't sent one.
When Mike and I were first married, and for years after, I sent 40 cards. Today, I send 15. The list dwindles. Very seldom do I add a name.
I find, too, that Christmas cards tend to come late these days, often right at the holiday. (This is an observation, not a complaint.)
Some years ago, I used to buy a few New Years cards and use them for thank you notes. However, I just don't need them now.
