The Clearwater County Sheriff called Mike this morning to report on his contact with Blaze the Horse on our farm property. He said that he could get up to him with a bag of oats, but when he tried to put the halter on him, he wouldn't have it.
The sheriff estimates that Blaze is about 20. His teeth and his feet aren't in great shape because of neglect. We know he's been eating far too many sweets -- apples, plums, pears, etc., and we also know what that does to the digestion.
This isn't the end of the saga yet because when Blaze had had his fill of oats, he took off. The sheriff hopes he can place Blaze with a horse rescue operation. KW

Guess the sheriff is going to have to lasso him! Poor ol' Blaze. Someone must have just turned him out.
Seems strange to exonerate the owner from responsibility. Somebody ought to check for his serial number and registration. Not sure where the serial number is located on a horse.
They call that serial number a brand, and he apparently doesn't have one. It's expensive to keep a horse, and this one is apparently a "mutt," so it's possible someone turned him loose rather than feed him. Sad but true that this happens.
And the saga goes on....
Yes -- but at least we have help. Your suggestion to call the sheriff was correct, Chuck, but we had previously been told that they could do nothing. This sheriff has been helpful, and the mission statement on his website is impressive -- to help people solve their problems.
